The volunteer service is a good place to start if you are interested in finding out what volunteering opportunities are available.
Whether you want to learn a new skill or gain experience in helping you in a future career, or you simply want to do a meaningful activity in your spare time, you can volunteer.
Volunteering is something which helps other poeple or the general community, as long as you do it because you want to and not for financial gain.
The volunteer service recruits and places anyone who is interested in volunteering and supports organisations who work with volunteers.
You can give as much or as little time as you want - an hour a week or a whole day, it is up to you. Volunteering should not cost you anything, it is completely free.
There are many good reasons for volunteering but most importantly you want to:
- make a difference
- develop or learn a new skill
- gain experience
- meet a new challenge
- explore new ideas
- help someone else
- make new friends
- keep busy
- and also - HAVE FUN
There are lots of opportunties for volunteering; working with animals, working with children and young people, administration, befriending, community work, sports and outdoor activities and many many more.
At present the Volunteer Service is administered from Wansbeck Centre for Voluntary Service in Ashington and they can be contacted by telephoning 01670 858688.
