Community and Volutary Action Blyth Valley offers training opportunities to meet the needs of the voluntary and communty sector within Blyth, Cramlington and Seaton Valley.
Our training courses are initially aimed at VCS groups, although places can also be allocated to statutory organisations.

How to apply to Awards for All
Awards for All is the Big Lottery’s small grants scheme and gives awards of up to £10,000 for community activities. This half day workshop is aimed at community groups and will give you step by step instructions on the application process.
At the moment Awards for All are in the enviable position of being able to fund all eligible projects, so this is a really good time to apply.

The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) - the new CRB
On 1 December 2012 the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) merged to become the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). This short course will explore what this means for your group or organisation, and how the changes will help employers make safer recruitment decisions, and prevent unsuitable people from working with vulnerable groups, including children.
The course will cover:
- The role of the DBS and how this differs from previous arrangements under the CRB
- Deciding if an employee or volunteer role requires a DBS check
- Making referrals to the DBS
At the end of this course you will:
- Understand the role of the DBS
- Be able to assess whether a specific role requires a DBS check
- Understand requirements to make referrals to the DBS

A half-day workshop for people who are new to community work or people looking to set up their own community activity/group. The course will provide you with all the basic information you will require to set up your group:
